AmeriCorps members join Habitat for Humanity for its annual Build-a-Thon
Throughout the week, AmeriCorps members and volunteers will build 10 new homes and perform several critical home repairs in partnership with low-income families. In addition, AmeriCorps members will partner with local organizations and volunteers on community service projects.
“The AmeriCorps Build-a-Thon has become a great asset in helping Habitat bring awareness to the need for decent and affordable housing in the U.S.,” said Mark Andrews, Habitat for Humanity International’s vice president, volunteer and institutional engagement. “Our AmeriCorps members have proven to be a tremendous force in helping to alleviate poverty housing and we cannot thank them enough for the service and commitment they have demonstrated for the past 20 years.”
Habitat for Humanity and the Corporation for National and Community Service have been in partnership since 1994. In 20 years, more than 8,000 AmeriCorps members have worked with Habitat for Humanity to serve nearly 20,000 U.S. families – resulting in more than 13 million hours of service. In addition, AmeriCorps members have raised millions of dollars in donations and have engaged more than 3.1 million volunteers.
